The Logo
The design was inspired by the act of welcoming visitors according to old Malay custom: the offering of sliced dried areca nut wrapped in betel leaf.
From as far back as I can remember in my maternal grandparents’ home in the heart of Kuala Lumpur there was always a beautifully hand crafted “tepak sirih” (a metal container which houses the ingredients required to make this wrap) sitting by the front door as a welcome greeting to guests.
It is also still used extensively in weddings and ceremonial occasions in the Malay community in Malaysia.
The ritual is not restricted to Malaysia but is also of similar importance in many countries in Asia.
The colours used in the logo are those of the betel leaf and that of the young areca nut.
This logo is an original design by Sharifah Sorayya.
